This project was repair and maintenance of 6.5 miles of unpaved, improved roads in El Centro Sector, California. Road was in poor condition and not maintained on a consistent basis.
Martinez Construction provided all management, labor, and equipment to repair the road to an FC-3 (gravel or dirt road with improved drainage and soil stabilization) standard and constructed two 15’ wide drag roads (roads used for tracking migrant traffic along the border) on either side of the main roadway.
Work included re-grading, contouring, spraying, and tilling in soil stabilization materials and compacting the roadway. Martinez Construction used paddle-wheel graders to relocate and place over 200,000 cubic yards of material. Project required installation of drainage features as well as protection of existing drainage features to maintain consistent sheet flow drainage patterns and no high- or low-spots along the road. Several areas, due to location of sandy / silty pockets of subgrade material and base rock to bridge the roadway at “soft” spots. All grading and drainage had to be within tolerances per Customs and Border Protection design specifications.
Additionally, work included all services necessary for surveying the road and placement of grade markers as well as responsibility for all permits from local authorities. The roadwork was located adjacent to the All-American Canal, a major irrigation canal structure maintained by the Imperial Irrigation District.
