This project was for the abatement, utility disconnection, and ultimate demolition of an 80’ talk steel and concrete control tower for the FAA at the Key West International Airport in Florida.
Initial abatement work included testing and removal of PCB-contaminated soils around the site, abatement of interior asbestos and lead-based paint, and re-routing of electrical utilities around the demolition site.
Upon completion of the Remediation activities, we proceeded with demolition prep work for the project. This included filing the required NESHAP notice with the appropriate government entities and the procurement of demolition permits, including utilities cuts and caps, plumbing, and electrical.
The demolition was complicated by the fact that the tower is located in the middle of the operational airport and required close coordination to ensure that the public was protected during the work.
Final work included removal of all demolished materials from the site, grading of the clean site and plantings.
